Curated Properties hosts rustic preview opening at Cabin in Toronto’s West Queen West

CabinPreviewLaunch_1-1024x710The glow of the full moon provided a fitting backdrop to last night’s successful priority preview event at Cabin by Curated Properties. With wild game on the menu, marshmallows by a bonfire and classic tunes performed by local artist Anthony Field, the organizers did a wonderful job at bringing a touch of Muskoka to downtown Toronto.

The exclusive event was the first opportunity for pre-registrants, realtors and other industry professionals to see the brand new sales centre located at 45 Dovercourt Road in Toronto’s sought-after West Queen West neighbourhood. Built out of seven shipping containers, the eye-catching structure was designed to mimic Cabin’s stacked architecture and profile envisioned by Toronto-based RAW Design.

Inside, guests were able browse the development’s collection of floorplans, features and finishes, and tour the beautifully decorated model suite featuring contemporary Canadiana interiors by Mason Studio.

Consisting of an intimate collection of only 24 two-story homes, the project is inspired by the cabins usually found deep in the Canadian wilderness. The sculptural facade boasts an articulated stepped design that delineates the units and creates a cascading effect, while various shades of wood are used to break up the building’s frame. The overall design is something never before seen in Toronto with elements like natural wood, stone and dark metal panels reminiscent of a rural getaway lodge.

“We designed Cabin to become an intimate community; a place purchasers can relate to as a home, rather than an investment,” said Roland Rom Colthoff, Principal at RAW Design.

“We used a few key elements — articulated steps to delineate the two-story units, variation in shades of wood to break the building’s frame, a cascading effect in structure — to create an uncommon level of visual quality.”

The contemporary cottage feel is echoed inside where sun-filled living spaces are finished with natural stone, wood, marble and porcelain materials. Finely crafted kitchens feature full-sized stainless steel and integrated appliances, while large living and dining rooms offer wide open spaces ideal for family dinners or entertaining friends.

When designing the fully-furnished model suite, Stanley Sun, partner at Mason Studio, used natural elements like oiled ply, pony hair, polished brass and textured stone to give it a modern yet rustic appearance.

“There’s a simplicity and a true natural appeal to Cabin’s interiors,” said Sun. “We wanted to create a humble, instinctive look, warm and contemporary, removing unnecessary polish. Cabin inspired us to stay true to its Canadiana appeal, using natural stoneware and eclectic cottage-esque furniture in the model suite.”
